FAQs
Does SPXCheer cut?
No. Any athlete who wants to cheer, commits to the time and physical requirements of the team can cheer. Tryouts will give the coach a chance to place athletes on appropriate teams.
What Cheer Teams does SPX have?
SPX Varsity will cheer on the field at all Varsity Football games and all Varsity Boys Basketball games.
SPX JV Gold will cheer at all home JV Football games and Varsity Girls Basketball games. They will attend the Varsity football games, in uniform and cheer on the field for portions of the game.
SPX JV Blue will cheer at all home Varsity Girls Volleyballs games and Wrestling matches. They will attend the Varsity football games, in uniform and cheer on the field for portions of the game.
When is Camp?
UCA Stunt Camp is required on June 8 & 9. UCA Camp at Western Illinios University is July 20-23. All practices prior to camp are required.Pay close attention to the summer calendar.
What is required for Summer 2023?
All Athletes are required to assist at one of the days of the Summer Youth Camps. Check the calendar. All of these days are eligible for service hours.
All athletes are required to assist with the Winter Youth Clinic.
All athletes are required to attend the practices listed as "Required" on the calendar (immediately preceeding the camps).
All athletes are required to attend all of the post-dead week practices. We have 14 days to get 14 practice completed. We will have practice everyday M-F, August 7-24. Missing any of these practices will resulting in being benched, but the aqthlete can not cheer at a game until the 14 games is reached. Please refer to the info sheets on attendance requirements.
Can boys be on the cheer squad?
As of March 2023, SPX Cheer is an all-girls squad.
How much does it cost to cheer?
The majority of the fees occur in the months of May and June.
Tryouts are $15. Incidental costs to meet the dress requirements may be necessary. See, the tryout information sheets.
All athletes attend Camp. The cost is $450. There will be another $100 for clothes at camp. There may be a cost for transportation, food, etc. which is still TBD.
Most uniform needs are supplied by SPX- 2-4 Uniforms, bows, some poms, signs, blue team warmup pants, black puffer winter jackets, and cheer boxes.
There will be a variety of required uniform items each athlete has to provide. There will be a link to order these online. Some of these items include Team warmup jacket (~$50), team shoes (~$80), backpack (~$40), poms (~$30), boy shorts, black stretch pants, etc.
Throughout the year incidental costs may occur such as replacing a bow or banquet fees, etc.
Competition Team will have additional costs. The entry fee and hotel fees will be paid on an individual basis but the choreography fee will have to be shared by the group.
ALL of these costs could be deferred with fundraising. A group of parents and athletes will lead this.
How can parents assist the team?
We need parents to assist with fundraising, organizing and operating these opportunities.
We need parents who can assist with driving to some away games, camp or comps.
We need parents to lead some team socials before school starts, for thanksgiving or Christmas.
We need Freshman & Sophomore parents to run the Senior Night in during Football Season.
We need Junior Parents to run Senior Night in Basketball Season.
We need Senior Parents to run the planning for the banquet. Junior parents will organize the gifts for the Seniors at the banquet.
